Summary: The ability to look in on your business from a smart phone is standard for most commercial surveillance systems and is an effective management tool for operations, asset management and, most importantly, peace of mind.
An obvious use of security cameras is to have “live eyes” on your most important assets 24/7.
Email alerts with a picture attached can be used to notify owners or managers of certain critical events, and once an event has occurred you can remotely view a live stream on your tablet with the click of a button.
We share three quick Alabama customer success examples just below the video.
We work with many product lines but one of our favorite remote monitoring technology solutions comes from Mobotix AG, a German security technology solutions provider.
Three Remote Viewing Success Stories
A shopping center used video security cameras to put an end to copper wire theft, a company president monitors his manufacturing operations from the comfort of his kitchen table, and a Birmingham, Alabama restaurant entrepreneur saves time in her busy day through remote video monitoring.
Roof-top Cameras Can Prevent Copper Theft on Commercial Properties
After repeated thefts of air conditioner copper wiring led to cancellation of insurance, a Birmingham shopping center recently installed 10 security cameras on its roofs. Now, anytime that someone is on the roof (without prior approval), the cameras “alert” a remote monitoring station, which then views live camera feeds. Once it is confirmed that someone is on the roof, the monitoring station contacts the management agent and/or local police.
The manager knows that thieves are still in the area, but they haven’t vandalized the shopping center air conditioners since the IP video cameras and video monitoring program was put in place.
The cameras have effectively created an invisible force field around the property.
Remote Viewing Enhances Factory Productivity
In manufacturing settings, an “extra set of eyes” strategically located throughout the facility gives both on-site and off-site managers the ability to oversee production. When asked why the video surveillance was so important the president of a central Alabama production facility answered “who wouldn’t want an extra set of eyes on their factory and warehouse?”
He can now look at any part of the factory in real time 24/7 from his table or computer.
The president said he can view his cameras remotely and tell how efficient the factory is running just by looking at the color of the smoke. Prior to installation of the video cameras, the president said he needed to make a trip to the plant to capture this kind of information.
Remote Viewing Boosts Management Efficiency
Small business owners usually find themselves pulled in multiple directions because they tend to be heavily involved in the day to day operations of the business. Remote viewing can reduce the need for a small business owner to be present, on-site at all times during business hours.
One central Birmingham, Alabama business owner said that she felt like she had to be at her restaurant almost all of the time before she installed the remote video surveillance cameras.
Once the video camera security system was installed she was able to remotely check in on operations and perform almost the same management functions as if she was actually on site. Thanks to the camera feeds, she said a quick peek at the cameras on her smartphone let her make sure that the person responsible for opening the restaurant came in and was preparing the food that would be used for lunch that day.
This Birmingham entrepreneur now has 7 restaurants in the Birmingham area and her regional manager use the cameras each day to check operations at all seven restaurants. It’s “the next best thing to actually being there,” the regional manager says.
