If you have any familiarity with Alabama’s leading industries, you’re probably familiar with the YellaWood® brand of pressure treated pine and related products.
Back in the first quarter of 2021, Vulcan Security Systems installed a new Mobotix IP video security camera system at the Tuscumbia, Alabama plant of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., manufacturer of the YellaWood® product line.
We recently talked with Morgan Doster, production manager at the Tuscumbia plant, to get a few comments on why he chose Vulcan Security Systems and Mobotix cameras for the facility he oversees, how the system is working out so far, and VSS’s customer service track record.
“Vulcan Security Systems has the right combination of price point, quality cameras and equipment, and service,” Doster said. “I’ve been impressed with everything so far.”

Doster told us that he lobbied corporate management to have Vulcan Security Systems and Mobotix approved as the security systems vendor for the Tuscumbia plant.
“For what we needed at our Tuscumbia facility, Vulcan Security Systems offered the best bang for our buck,” Doster said. “Going with VSS was a bit against the grain because they are a different vendor than our other locations are using. After our corporate security team saw the crisp images of Mobotix cameras and how they are working in our operations in Tuscumbia, they were impressed and are looking to work with VSS at other sites.”
About the Mobotix Cameras & Software Used at the GSWP Tuscumbia Plant
Doster had many nice things to say about the Mobotix cameras.
“The image quality is surprisingly good, compared to what I’ve seen in the past,” Doster said. “The pictures are crisp and clear. Having a microphone and speaker system built into the camera is an added plus, to allow for 2-way communication between the monitoring station and the camera location.”
Flexibility and modular design of Mobotix cameras make upgrades and changes simple.
“A camera feature that’s impressive is that it’s just a matter of switching out the camera lens if we need to change the angle or field of vision of a camera,” Doster explained. “There’s no need to buy a new camera, which has been my experience with other security camera brands.”
Mobotix Cameras Have Features That Enhance Production Operations Management
“The cameras we installed also allow monitoring of ambient temperature and can trigger an alert if the temperature goes above a certain level,” he said. “We’ve used this feature in several areas of our operations.”
“Once we got the system up and running, I wished we had 10 more cameras on site, but we can add more as we go,” Doster pointed out.
The Mobotix video management system (VMS) also received praise from Doster.
“The computer system that runs the Mobotix cameras is very easy to use,” Doster said. “After installation, Jason walked us through everything, how to access the cameras, as well as the data from the cameras.”
A Commitment to Value-Added Customer Service
Doster also praised the installation team, as well as VSS’s customer service and responsiveness in the year since the installation was competed.
“The guys who did the install were super nice,” Doster said. “They followed our safety protocols to a T. They clearly take pride in their work. It was a nice, clean installation.”
One of the core aims of Vulcan Security System is to build a long-term relationship with customers through value-added service.
As Vulcan Security Systems CEO Jason Maddox explains, “Our goal is to be a value-added business partner with our clients, to help them find solutions to their security-related business problems.”
For Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc.’s Tuscumbia campus, Vulcan Security Systems has lived up to that commitment.
“VSS’s repeat service has been great,” Doster said. “Either Jason or another person comes up. They have been very prompt in responding.”
Thank you, Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc.
