Diversified Label Images, Inc. (DLI) is a commercial printing company specializing in product packaging and labeling for retail and industrial customers. DLI, located in Irondale, Alabama, offers a range of complex printing solutions for merchandising and promotion, graphic design, and order fulfillment.
An incident after business hours prompted DLI’s President, Greg Boggis, to look further into video security and surveillance options. Although the management team had discussed video security options in the past, Diversified Label did not have a system in place.
“Our motivation for adding video security was a concern for employee safety,” Boggis said. “We wanted to assure our employees that their safety was our primary concern. We felt that video surveillance would be another tool in our arsenal.”
Online research led Boggis to contact Vulcan Security Systems, based in the Birmingham, Alabama metro area.
“We saw that VSS is a locally based company and that’s exactly what we wanted and needed for service and support,” Boggis said.

The VSS Site & Security Needs Assessment
After meeting with DLI’s team and doing a site and needs assessment, Jason Maddox of Vulcan Security System put together a proposal and presentation with recommendations to address the company’s concerns.
“Jason’s knowledge of the technology, local turn-key service, and reasonable pricing made it an easy decision to go with VSS when compared to other companies we reviewed,” Boggis said. “Jason sealed the deal.”
So far, the video surveillance has been serving its purpose.
“Fortunately, we haven’t had any incidents since the cameras have been installed,” Boggis noted. “The peace of mind is invaluable to our operation.”
Service After the Installation
Once the camera system had been operational for a little while, Boggis reached out to VSS to consider adding an additional camera. Instead of pushing for an additional sale, Jason Maddox stopped by the DLI facility and offered a more affordable option: Repositioning a couple of cameras to solve the issue.
“Recently, I asked Jason if we could look an additional camera to extend our line of sight in a specific area,” Boggis explained. “Jason stopped by the next day and was able to move two cameras to give us the exact views we needed without any additional cameras or cost.”
Today’s video cameras, especially those in the Mobotix product line, can be used for more than just surveillance. Mobotix cameras can function as computers to control industrial equipment and facilitate advanced operational support.
“Our camera system is first and foremost for employee security and safety,” Boggis said. “For the future we are discussing industrial operational uses, including streamlining movement throughout the plant.”
